Out & about around Budleigh Salterton

Stoneborough House was built as a fine gentleman’s residence in 1911. It is ideally situated, being just short walk from the centre of Budleigh Salterton, the South West Coastal path and the River Otter.

Superb walks abound and there is much to see and do both in Budleigh and the surrounding area.

Budleigh Salterton is a charming, unspoilt coastal town with a wonderful variety of independent shops, art galleries, tea rooms and restaurants. Its famous pebble beach is delightfully unspoilt and the South West Coast Path which runs both east and west from here offers magnificent views of the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site.

Stoneborough House is a short walk from the mouth of the River Otter whose banks are a haven for birds and wildlife. The riverside walk from Budleigh to Otterton is a joy, offering excellent views and bird watching opportunities. We would then highly recommend a visit to Ottterton Mill with its famous bakery, restaurant and craft shops.

Sporting facilities in Budleigh are plentiful. It is the home of the East Devon Golf Club with its magnificent coastal views. The Games Club offers indoor and outdoor bowls, depending on the season and two all year round floodlit tennis courts plus three superbly maintained grass tennis courts for use in the summer months. There is also a thriving Croquet Club and horse riding, fishing and shooting are also available nearby.

The fine regency town of Sidmouth is a short drive to the east and continuing in this direction, Branscombe, Beer and Lyme Regis are worth visiting. To the north and west we have the quaint little town of Topsham which is a must for its location on the banks of the Exe, its history and its shops. Nearby there is wonderful bird watching on the Exe Estuary and Darts Farm Shop offers an enormous selection of food, gilts and much, much more!

The cathedral city of Exeter with its numerous facilities and attractions needs no introduction and Dartmoor National Park is an easy drive from here.

All in all, I think you will agree, there is plenty to keep even the most energetic busy and entertained in Budleigh and the surrounding area!
